The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) is raising strong objections to Karnataka’s decision to prolong school holidays, a move reportedly made to facilitate a Social and Educational Survey.
In a recent statement, AIDSO vehemently criticized the state government’s decision, particularly the extension of holidays for government and aided schools to carry out this survey. They labeled the action “undemocratic,” expressing grave concerns that it would significantly impede the delivery of quality education to students in these institutions. Furthermore, the organization highlighted a potential and worrying widening of the educational gap between private and government schools as a direct consequence of this policy.
AIDSO pointed out that school teachers are already burdened with numerous non-teaching duties. The additional responsibility of conducting survey work, they noted, is placing immense pressure on educators.
The student body warned that extended holidays would inevitably force teachers to rush through the curriculum, compromising the depth of learning. They stressed that this decision directly threatens the academic stability of students in government schools. AIDSO expressed deep regret that these holidays were extended abruptly, without a clear strategy to prevent disruption to the fundamental teaching and learning process. This lack of foresight, they argue, instills fear of a significant drop in academic performance among government school students.
In light of these critical concerns, the AIDSO district committee is urging the government to prioritize the educational future of Karnataka’s children. They demand an immediate withdrawal of the order extending school holidays and insist that alternative methods be found to conduct the survey without encroaching on valuable school time.
