Indian squash maestro Joshna Chinappa has triumphantly added an eleventh Professional Squash Association (PSA) title to her illustrious career, dominating the Japan Open in Yokohama. Her stellar performance culminated in a gripping four-game victory over Egypt’s Haya Ali.
In a hard-fought final, the former women’s world No. 10 skillfully defeated the tournament’s third seed with scores of 11-5, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8. The intense match lasted 38 minutes, showcasing Chinappa’s resilience and strategic brilliance in the $15,000 Challenger event.
Chinappa’s path to the championship included a decisive semi-final win against Egyptian fourth seed Rana Ismail, whom she dispatched comfortably with a score of 11-7, 11-1, 11-5, demonstrating her consistent form throughout the tournament.
However, it wasn’t an entirely victorious weekend for Indian squash. In the Silicon Valley Open, a high-stakes $130,500 PSA Gold event held in Redwood City, the reigning men’s national champion and world No. 29, Abhay Singh, faced a tough exit. He was defeated in the round-of-16 by France’s world No. 9 and fifth seed, Victor Crouin, in three straightforward games: 4-11, 2-11, 1-11.
