A groundbreaking Drone Pilot Training Programme, orchestrated by the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) in partnership with Sahyog Care Foundation, recently concluded, empowering 32 ex-servicemen from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with cutting-edge drone piloting skills. This intensive program, held from September 6 to 20, marks a significant step in providing retired military personnel with valuable new career opportunities.
The comprehensive 10-day curriculum was thoughtfully designed to blend theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. It began with four days of in-depth classroom instruction at AWPO’s Secunderabad office, where participants delved into the core principles of drone systems, followed by crucial simulator practice at Keesara. The program then transitioned to six days of rigorous practical field training, allowing the ex-servicemen to hone their drone flying abilities. An additional two days were dedicated to exploring various industry applications for drones and fostering entrepreneurial spirit among the participants, highlighting potential business avenues.
The program yielded promising results, with four leading companies engaging directly with the trainees for interviews. Notably, 12 participants showed keen interest in launching their own ventures through an entrepreneurial model supported by IPAGEUMA (India Drone Academy). This academy will offer vital guidance in drone procurement, specialized advanced training, and comprehensive business development support. Furthermore, three individuals have already committed to advanced training, and many others have been shortlisted for diverse technical and administrative positions, with follow-up interviews already in the pipeline, according to an official release.
