The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been investigating cases stemming from the K. Hema Committee report, has reportedly approached the Ernakulam magistrate court. Their request is to dismiss the charges against V.S. Chandrasekharan, who previously served as the State president of the Indian Lawyers Congress and Chairman of the legal aid committee for KPCC, due to insufficient evidence.
Chandrasekharan, along with six other individuals, was initially charged by the Central police following a sexual abuse complaint filed by a female actor from Aluva. However, the SIT’s report suggests that the complaint was potentially driven by ulterior motives and stemmed from existing animosity. The charges against him included rape (IPC Section 376) and criminal conspiracy (IPC Section 120B).
Following the registration of the case, Mr. Chandrasekharan had resigned from both his leadership positions. At the time, he strongly asserted that the actor’s accusations were malicious, aimed solely at damaging his reputation and driven by undisclosed motives.
Other notable figures who were also implicated in similar petitions filed by the same woman actor included actor-turned-MLA M. Mukesh, former general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) Edavela Babu, and former AMMA office-bearer Maniyanpilla Raju.
