Leading public sector mining company, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), has announced a substantial bonus payout for its over 71,000 employees, both regular and contract staff, from its impressive 2024-25 profits.
The company achieved a remarkable profit after tax of ₹6,394 crore for the fiscal year. After allocating ₹4,034 crore for its extensive expansion projects, 34% of the remaining ₹2,360 crore will be distributed as bonuses to its dedicated workforce.
This translates to a generous bonus of ₹1,95,610 for each of the 41,000 regular employees. Furthermore, the more than 30,000 contract workers will receive ₹5,500 each, an increase of ₹500 compared to the previous year.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding SCCL’s operations beyond state-specific coal mining. The company has been granted permission to bid for coal blocks in other regions, a strategy that has already yielded success with SCCL securing rights to gold and copper mines in neighboring Karnataka.
These new acquisitions complement the recently obtained Naini coal block in Odisha, projected to add a production capacity of 10 million tonnes. Plans are also underway to further boost production by an additional 12 million tonnes, aiming to push SCCL’s total annual production past 100 million tonnes.
Recognizing the global demand for critical minerals, SCCL is also leveraging its extensive mining expertise to venture into this strategic sector. To guide its ambitious expansion, renowned consultants PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG have been enlisted to develop a comprehensive roadmap.
Mr. Bhatli Vikramarka confirmed that the SCCL board and the government, following discussions with Coal India Limited, decided to announce these bonuses in anticipation of the Diwali festival.
