A disturbing incident at a children’s home in Coimbatore has prompted an official inquiry, following the emergence of shocking videos depicting a man assaulting a child with a belt. The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) has swiftly launched an investigation into the matter.
Acting on direct orders from Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, DCPU officials immediately visited the Grace Happy Home Trust, located in Kottaipalayam on the outskirts of the city. As part of their comprehensive inquiry, they also spoke with the children residing at the facility, who are students at a nearby government school.
District Child Protection Officer M. Hafsa confirmed that her team is actively questioning the young residents to gather more information about the incident.
Two highly circulated videos ignited public concern. They graphically show an adult male repeatedly hitting a child with a belt, while other children and a few caretakers are present. In one particularly heartbreaking clip, the child can be heard pleading with the man to stop the assault. The individual who recorded these disturbing scenes remains unidentified.
Local police, who were awaiting an official complaint from the DCPU before proceeding with legal action, indicated that the man identified in the videos is reportedly responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the children’s home.
The DCPU is expected to submit a detailed report on its findings to the Collector once the inquiry is concluded, with hopes for accountability and improved safety measures for the children.
