The Telangana Food Safety Task Force recently conducted crucial quality assurance inspections, uncovering alarming deficiencies in the diet kitchens of three prominent government hospitals in Hyderabad. These inspections, vital for patient health, focused on the kitchens at Government Maternity Hospital (Sultan Bazar), Government ENT Hospital (Koti), and Area Hospital (Nampally).

At the Government Maternity Hospital in Sultan Bazar, managed by contractor M/s Katikam Linga Reddy, inspectors documented multiple hygiene breaches. These included unsanitary open waste bins, rice bags and fresh vegetables haphazardly stored directly on the floor, a complete absence of required water quality test reports, a lack of mandatory FoSTaC training for staff, and food handlers observed working without essential protective gear like caps or aprons.
Similarly, the Area Hospital in Nampally, under the operation of M/s Shiva Sai Manpower Services, also failed to meet basic hygiene standards. The task force’s report highlighted unkempt floors, corroded storage racks, heavily greased exhaust systems, damp and potentially moldy walls, and compromised window meshes that could allow pests to enter.
The situation at Government ENT Hospital in Koti, overseen by M/s Boini Shiva Kumar, was equally concerning. Investigators found evidence of overflowing drainage, significant risks of pest infestation, similarly greasy exhaust systems, and a complete lack of dedicated, sanitary storage facilities for raw food ingredients.
In response to these serious findings, the Telangana Food Safety Task Force has promptly issued stern notices to all implicated contractors. Furthermore, the hospital superintendents have been directly instructed to enforce immediate and thorough corrective actions to rectify these critical hygiene and maintenance issues.
