It has come to light that two nine-year-old boys in Karnataka recently endured disturbing incidents of corporal punishment. One case occurred in Bengaluru, the other in Chitradurga, both highlighting severe disciplinary abuses in educational institutions.
In a shocking incident from Chitradurga district, a student at a residential school run by the Sri Guru Tipperudraswamy Temple in Naykanahatti, Challakere taluk, suffered a brutal assault by his Sanskrit teacher, T. Veeresh. The teacher allegedly kicked the boy repeatedly after he called home without permission, a horrific act captured on video that recently went viral. The Chitradurga police have since arrested Veeresh, following a complaint from H. Gangadharappa, the temple’s executive officer. Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh has also issued a notice to the temple’s executive officer, demanding an explanation for the delay in reporting the incident to senior authorities.
“Discipline” Gone Wrong in Bengaluru
A separate but equally disturbing incident unfolded in Bengaluru, where a Class 5 student from a private school in Sunkadakatte was allegedly subjected to physical abuse. The principal and teachers reportedly used a PVC pipe to assault the boy and then locked him in a room for several hours, all because he had been absent for two days.
The incident took place on October 14, with the boy’s mother, Divya Shankar, filing a complaint the following day, leading to an FIR against Principal Rakesh Kumar, teacher Chandrika, and Vijay Kumar, the school’s secretary and also a teacher.
According to the complaint, the young victim had been attending St. Mary’s Public School for three years. The accused reportedly claimed their actions were for “disciplining” the child, a justification the school management allegedly reiterated when confronted by the parents. The boy’s parents discovered the bruises and the full extent of the abuse only after their own investigation. Police have since issued notices to the accused, requiring them to appear for questioning.
