In a sensational turn of events, Haryana Police have initiated a murder investigation against former Punjab Director General of Police (Human Rights), Mohammad Mustafa, his wife Razia Sultana, and other family members in connection with the death of their 35-year-old son, Aqil Akhtar. Aqil was found unresponsive at his residence in Panchkula and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Initially, the police did not suspect foul play, but a complaint filed by Shamshudeen Chaudhary, citing a social media post by Aqil from August, has shifted the investigation’s focus.
The complaint alleges that Aqil had expressed fears for his life, accusing family members of plotting against him. A diary screenshot shared with the authorities further fueled these claims, prompting the registration of an FIR under sections related to murder and criminal conspiracy. The FIR specifically mentions Aqil’s alleged discovery of illicit relations between his father and his wife, as well as claims that his mother and sister were involved in a conspiracy to harm him or frame him.
Reacting to the FIR, Mohammad Mustafa vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that the registration of a case does not equate to guilt. He described his son as mentally unstable and a drug addict who had undergone multiple rehabilitation treatments. Mustafa suggested the FIR was politically motivated and expressed confidence that the truth would prevail after a thorough investigation.
To ensure a comprehensive probe, the Haryana Police have formed a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT is tasked with investigating all aspects of the case with an open mind, ensuring that justice is served without bias.
The complainant, Chaudhary, has urged authorities to examine all available evidence, including Aqil’s digital records, call logs, and the post-mortem report, to uncover the truth behind his death amidst these serious accusations.
