K.A. Sengottaiyan, the Gobichettipalayam MLA and former AIADMK Minister, recently declared his silence to be a “sign of victory.” This statement, made on Friday, October 3, 2025, follows his earlier call last month for the re-induction of expelled party leaders. Sengottaiyan has yet to reveal his next political moves.
When questioned by journalists about his September 5 ultimatum to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami—an appeal for the reunification of estranged party functionaries, coupled with a threat to spearhead such efforts himself—Mr. Sengottaiyan stated plainly, “There is no reaction from either side. My silence is a sign of victory.”
Addressing the recent removal of his loyalists from party positions, he remained unfazed, commenting, “More may be removed, but everything will ultimately turn out for good.” He further downplayed any potential repercussions, asserting that these decisions “will bring neither change nor impact” to the party’s overall standing.
Regarding his absence from a meeting with Mr. Palaniswami during the latter’s visit to Gobichettipalayam on September 23, Sengottaiyan clarified, “I was in Chennai at that time and had not received any information about his visit.” When pressed on whether he would meet Mr. Palaniswami during the ‘Makkalai Kaappom Tamizhagathai Meetpom’ campaign in Erode on October 8, he offered a cryptic, “Wait and watch.”
Sengottaiyan also conveyed his profound sorrow over the tragic crowd crush at actor Vijay’s TVK rally in Karur, which claimed 41 lives. He characterized the incident as unparalleled in Tamil Nadu’s political history, extending his condolences to the grieving families. He implored both the government and the public to implement measures to prevent any recurrence of such tragedies.
