Devotees, mark your calendars! The sacred Sabarimala Ayyappa temple is set to welcome pilgrims once again, opening its doors at 4 p.m. on October 16th. This reopening initiates the monthly rituals for the Malayalam month of Thulam.
The ceremonial opening will be performed by the esteemed Melsanti (head priest), S. Arun Kumar Namboothiri, in the presence of Tantri Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru.
Pilgrims can commence their darshan (sacred viewing) from 5 a.m. on October 18th, coinciding with the first day of Thulam. A notable event, the traditional draw of lots to select the new head priests for both Sabarimala and Malikappuram, is also scheduled for the morning of Thulam’s first day at the Sannidhanam, as stated in a Wednesday announcement.
Adding a highlight to this month’s proceedings, President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Sabarimala on October 22nd. The Travancore Devaswom Board has already begun extensive preparations to ensure a grand and smooth welcome for the President. Due to this high-profile visit, certain restrictions on darshan will be implemented on October 22nd to manage the event.
Furthermore, the annual Sree Chithira Aattathirunal festival will be observed on October 21st this year, promising a vibrant spiritual atmosphere for all attendees.
