In a powerful demonstration against the worsening unemployment situation, Pudi Kiran Kumar, president of the Srikakulam Youth Congress, spearheaded a significant protest on Wednesday. He asserted that the pervasive lack of jobs has ignited widespread unrest among young individuals not only in Srikakulam district but across the country.
This protest, aptly named ‘Naukiri Chor-Gadde Chod’ (Job Thief – Leave the Throne), was organized in response to a nationwide directive from the Congress high command. During the event, Kiran Kumar articulated the party’s decision to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as ‘National Unemployment Day.’ He underscored the critical statistic that over 44% of India’s youth are grappling with a severe deficit of jobs and viable livelihood options.
Highlighting the dire local impact, Kiran Kumar stated that more than 700,000 people from Srikakulam have been forced to migrate to other regions in a desperate search for work. He lamented, “Tragically, even those who migrate often struggle to secure even basic salaries, leaving their families back home, who depend on their earnings, in deep financial distress.”
