Exciting news from Kozhikode! The district administration, in partnership with the National Health Mission (Arogya Keralam), is rolling out ‘Sahamithra’ – a groundbreaking mobile application tailored to support parents of differently abled children. This innovative app is expected to launch in phases very soon.
Kozhikode proudly stands as the only district in Kerala selected for this significant State Collaborative Initiative by the Union government’s Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. Sahamithra is thoughtfully designed to bring essential therapy guidance directly into homes, provide practical tools for tracking progress, and offer seamless connections to qualified therapists, doctors, and Community Disability Management Centres (CDMCs). This initiative promises to significantly reduce the burden of frequent hospital visits, offering families precious savings in time, effort, and financial costs.
District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh emphasized the app’s vital role, stating that ‘Sahamithra’ will ‘bridge a critical gap by bringing expert guidance directly into the homes of families.’ He further noted that the app aims to make therapy more consistent, readily accessible, and ultimately more effective for children with diverse abilities across the Kozhikode district.
Packed with powerful features, Sahamithra offers personalized therapy schedules and helpful reminders, direct and easy communication channels with doctors and therapists, and convenient access to nearby CDMCs and hospital services. To keep children engaged, it includes child-friendly tools like rewards and badges. Its design is also thoughtfully multilingual and accessible, ensuring it serves a broad community.
Parents will find it simple to monitor their child’s improvements through clear, easy-to-understand charts. Therapists and doctors can dynamically update therapy plans based on the activities children perform at home. The app boasts a rich library of curated exercises, insightful videos, and comprehensive guides, all tailored to various therapy needs. Moreover, parents can provide real-time feedback on therapy activities, allowing for prompt adjustments and personalized care. This ambitious project receives strong backing from the Kerala State IT Mission, Kerala Startup Mission, and renowned institutions like the National Institute for Mental Health and Neurosciences. A dedicated content committee of healthcare professionals will meticulously oversee the quality and relevance of all therapy materials, ensuring the highest standards of care.
