G.K. Vasan, president of the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), has made a strong appeal to the Tamil Nadu government for the immediate reinstallation of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Kamarajar Market in Tiruttani, located within the Tiruvallur district.
The revered statue, which once graced Ma.Po.Si. Salai in the heart of Tiruttani town, was taken down several months ago. Its removal was cited as a measure to ease traffic congestion in the area.
In an official statement, Mr. Vasan highlighted that despite persistent requests from various political parties and numerous appeals to local officials, the district administration’s directive for the Municipal Commissioner to convene an all-party meeting for site selection has yet to materialize. This delay has left the community without a clear plan for the statue’s return.
Therefore, Mr. Vasan called on the authorities to act swiftly, stressing the importance of ensuring Mahatma Gandhi’s statue finds its rightful place once more at the bustling Kamarajar Market in Tiruttani.
