Police Commemoration Day was observed with profound reverence across the districts of Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Kallakurichi on October 21, 2025. This annual event serves as a heartfelt tribute to the courageous police personnel who have laid down their lives in service to the nation. It specifically commemorates the 10 policemen tragically killed by Chinese troops in an ambush at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959, an incident that underpins the importance of this day.
In Villupuram, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Villupuram Range), E.S. Uma, led the solemn tributes. Following a moving commemoration parade, Ms. Uma placed wreaths at the Martyrs’ column located within the Armed Reserve police grounds, acknowledging the immense sacrifices made. Superintendent of Police P. Saravanan was also present, joining in the homage to the fallen heroes.
A similarly poignant ceremony unfolded in Cuddalore district, where Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar headed the police contingent in paying their respects. The occasion concluded with a dignified 21-gun salute, performed by the Armed Reserve police personnel, a powerful symbol of honor and remembrance for those who gave their all.
Further south, in Kallakurichi, Superintendent of Police G.S. Madhavan oversaw the homage ceremony at the district police office. Each district ensured that the memory and sacrifices of their officers were recognized and honored.
Beyond these local observances, the day held national significance. A total of 66 police personnel across the country, who lost their lives between September 1, 2024, and August 31, 2025, were collectively honored and remembered, emphasizing the continuous dedication and sacrifices made by law enforcement officers throughout the nation.
