He is survived by his talented son, acclaimed writer and poet Jeet Thayil, and his daughter, Sheba Thayil. His beloved wife, Ammu George, had passed away before him. The family has announced that the funeral service will take place on Sunday at the Hebbal crematorium.
Born in Kerala on May 7, 1928, Thayil Jacob Sony George embarked on his journalistic journey in the vibrant 1950s. His remarkable career spanned decades, during which he held prestigious senior editorial roles across India and abroad. Notably, he was a co-founder and editor of the influential Hong Kong-based magazine, Asiaweek, and later lent his extensive expertise as Editorial Adviser to The New Indian Express.
