Tamil Nadu captain Jagadeesan didn’t mince words after his team’s dismal batting collapse, scoring just 18 runs for five wickets against Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. He squarely blamed the batters’ ill-judged shot selection and their overall approach to the game for the debacle.
“Honestly, the blame falls entirely on the batters for the shot selection and our mindset,” Jagadeesan stated after Thursday’s play. “I don’t believe their bowling was exceptional; it was simply our mistakes. There was a hint of seam movement, and I strongly feel we could have handled it much more effectively.”
The 29-year-old leader underscored the critical need for strategic intelligence at the crease. “It boils down to batting smarter,” he explained. “The pitch was somewhat slow, and the bowlers weren’t exactly express pace. I sensed we were perhaps too eager to score boundaries. Had we simply allowed ourselves more time to settle and adapt to the conditions, the outcome could have been vastly different. In essence, we squandered a crucial session.”
Despite the setback, Jagadeesan expressed hope for a significant turnaround, anticipating a much-improved collective batting effort in the second innings and throughout the rest of the season.
