Authorities in Rajasthan have arrested Mangat Singh, a resident of Alwar district, on charges of espionage for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Singh was presented before a special court in Jaipur and has been taken into police custody for three days.
According to officials, Singh was in contact with a female Pakistani handler for approximately two years. During this period, he is alleged to have shared sensitive information concerning Indian military movements via social media platforms. The investigation revealed that he had saved the handler’s contact details under innocuous names like ‘Isha Sharma’ and ‘Isha Boss’.
Singh is accused of transmitting photographs and videos detailing Army and Border Security Force (BSF) movements, particularly in the Alwar and Ambala Cantonment regions. Financial records indicate that he received more than ₹10,000 in multiple transactions from Pakistan in return for this information. His mobile phone reportedly contained coded messages that hinted at troop movements prior to a significant event known as Operation Sindoor.
Locally, Singh was known as a ‘Siddh Purush’ and frequently participated in religious gatherings. Investigators believe this persona allowed him to build trust with both defense personnel and civilians, providing him with opportunities to gather intelligence. He was taken into custody by the Rajasthan Police’s intelligence unit and subsequently arrested under the Official Secrets Act following interrogation by intelligence agencies.
