Raichur Deputy Commissioner Nitish K. has issued a clear directive to officials: ensure that compensation reaches the families of atrocity victims from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). He highlighted a critical issue, noting that many victims’ families are simply unaware of their eligibility for compensation under Karnataka government regulations.
During a meeting of the District Level Awareness and Monitoring Committee for Control of Atrocities against SCs and STs in Raichur on October 4, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated that SC/ST victims’ families are eligible for both financial compensation and government employment once atrocities are proven. He stressed that officers must proactively engage with these families, assist them in gathering necessary documentation for legal processes, and report any delays in police charge sheet submissions to the committee for immediate resolution.
To ensure accountability, Mr. Nitish set a strict one-month deadline for officials to submit a comprehensive report detailing atrocities against SCs and STs to the regional commissioner.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to raise awareness about a significant cash benefit: ₹3 lakh provided for house construction in designated residential areas bordering Raichur city.
Responding to concerns from committee members, he also gave specific instructions for the construction of compound walls around graveyards, a measure aimed at protecting these sacred sites from illegal encroachments.
In a stern warning, the Deputy Commissioner declared that legal action would be taken against individuals found using fraudulent caste certificates to secure government jobs.
The meeting saw the attendance of several key officials and community representatives, including Superintendent of Police G. Puttamadaiah, Corporation Commissioner Jubin Mohapatra, IAS (Probationary) Officer Pururaj Singh, along with Ravindra Jaldar, K.E. Kumar, Hemraj Askihal, Ravikumar Askihal, Raghuveer Naik, Pawan Kishor Patil, Basavaraj, and T. Sudhama.
