A local court in Sambhal announced on Friday, September 26, 2025, that the next hearing for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s case is set for October 28. This legal challenge pertains to remarks Gandhi made earlier this year during the inauguration of the AICC office.
The proceedings are being overseen by Additional District Judge Aarti Fouzdar at the Chandausi district court. The lawsuit was initiated by Simran Gupta, the national president of the Hindu Shakti Dal, and has seen several postponements since May, with its most recent listing on September 26.
According to Mr. Gupta, who spoke to PTI, the controversy began on January 15. During the inauguration of the Congress headquarters, Indira Bhavan, Mr. Gandhi reportedly stated, “our fight is not with the BJP or the RSS, but with the Indian State.”
Mr. Gupta alleges that this particular statement deeply offended public sentiments nationwide.
He further elaborated that after his initial complaints to the district magistrate, the Superintendent of Police in Sambhal, and other relevant authorities received no action, he proceeded to file a case in the Chandausi court on January 23.
The court has previously addressed this matter on May 7, June 16, July 18, and August 25. The hearing originally scheduled for this past Friday was then postponed to October 28.
Advocate Sachin Gupta, representing the complainant, stated that Rahul Gandhi’s legal team, led by Sagir Saifi, submitted their response to the revision petition on Friday. Gupta confirmed they plan to file a counter-response. The court has scheduled October 28 for further proceedings, which could involve arguments, depending on the judge’s directives.
Senior advocate Saifi, on behalf of Mr. Gandhi, informed reporters that the defense presented its objections in court on Friday.
He added that the complainant requested more time to respond, and consequently, the case has been adjourned until October 28, at which point legal arguments are expected to commence.
