During a significant election rally in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leveled serious accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He claimed that the BJP is effectively governing Bihar “through remote control,” merely using Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s public image as a front.
Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was making his inaugural election address in the state. He echoed sentiments expressed by Tejashwi Yadav, stating, “I agree with Tejashwi Yadav, who spoke just before me, that the government in Bihar is being run through remote control. They are simply using the face of Nitish Kumar.”
The former Congress president further criticized the central BJP government, asserting that it stands “against social justice.” He highlighted that it was only due to the opposition’s persistent demands that the Narendra Modi government eventually agreed to conduct a caste census.
Gandhi painted a stark picture of a bifurcated India, alleging, “Two Indias are emerging. One belongs to the common people, and the other to five or ten billionaires. This is why regions like Bihar continue to struggle with poverty, despite their immense untapped potential.”
He also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recalling a supposed incident: “You all must have seen the drama that PM Narendra Modi wanted to enact by declaring that he was going to take a dip in the Yamuna on the occasion of Chhath Puja. When it came to the fore that it was a water body created through piped water, Modi flinched.”
Gandhi continued his critique of Modi, saying, “Modi boasts of making cheap data available to the people. He conveniently overlooks the fact that a single business house has been granted a monopoly in the telecom sector. He also remained silent on the economic devastation caused by demonetisation.”
Referencing his earlier Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, the Congress leader warned, “They stole the polls in Maharashtra and Haryana. They will try to do the same in Bihar.”
He affirmed that an incoming INDIA bloc government would prioritize and safeguard the interests of all societal segments, irrespective of caste or religious background. “Theft of votes is an assault on the Constitution of Babasaheb Ambedkar. We are committed to protecting the Constitution,” Gandhi declared.
Reflecting on Bihar’s rich heritage, including the ancient Nalanda University, Gandhi added, “Your potential is still evident. People from the state are doing well in Dubai, Mauritius, Seychelles, and America.”
“Your potential needs to be fully realized. The modern University of Nalanda was envisioned by the previous Congress-led government at the Centre. I envision a future where even Americans will travel to Bihar for higher education,” he stated.
Concluding his address, Gandhi urged the audience, “You are also able to understand political intricacies in a matter of seconds. I would urge you not to be swayed by the drama of Narendra Modi. He would be ready to dance on the stage if he sensed that it would fetch you votes.”
