A truly heroic moment unfolded in Belagavi on Saturday when a dedicated Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable dramatically saved the life of a 60-year-old man who had fallen from a moving train.
The incident involved Barama Kumbar, a 60-year-old resident of Basarate village, who was at the station to bid farewell to his grandson, Laxman.
After young Laxman boarded the Mysuru-Ajmer Express, his grandfather, in a moment of affection, also stepped onto the train to say a final goodbye.
However, time ran out. Before he could alight, the train began to move, gathering speed.
As he rushed to the door to exit, he lost his footing and plunged dangerously into the narrow gap between the accelerating train and the platform edge.
Fortunately, Head Constable C.I. Koppad of the Railway Protection Force witnessed the terrifying fall. Without a second’s hesitation, he sprang into action.
Demonstrating incredible courage and swift reflexes, Constable Koppad pulled the elderly man from the perilous gap, bringing him safely onto the platform. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Barama Kumbar profusely thanked the brave officer for his life-saving intervention.
