Puttaparthi is gearing up for the grand centenary celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba with an extensive, cutting-edge security framework. The Sri Sathya Sai district police have unveiled a comprehensive plan, integrating advanced surveillance technology not just in Puttaparthi, but also across Dharmavaram, Hindupur, and Kadiri sub-divisions.
Leading this vital initiative, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar recently conducted a ‘bhumi puja’ (ground-breaking ceremony) for the ambitious ₹1.39 crore digital surveillance project. This state-of-the-art system will feature 216 high-definition CCTV cameras and advanced day-and-night vision drones, strategically positioned throughout Puttaparthi and its surrounding areas. Generously funded by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, this project marks the beginning of similar security upgrades planned for other sub-divisions.
Addressing the media, SP Kumar elaborated on the preparations for an expected influx of over 1 million devotees from India and beyond, including numerous VIPs and VVIPs. To effectively manage such a massive gathering, the police are deploying 10 automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and 169 fixed surveillance units, complementing the 47 mobile cameras already in place. All these devices will feed into a sophisticated, round-the-clock control room in Puttaparthi, ensuring continuous monitoring until November 25.
A notable addition to the security arsenal will be two exclusive night-vision drone cameras, procured by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust at a cost of ₹5 lakh. These drones will provide invaluable aerial surveillance, making Puttaparthi the first town in Andhra Pradesh to implement such advanced drone technology for public safety.
Puttaparthi MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy underscored the significance of this initiative, emphasizing its crucial role in bolstering safety and maintaining law and order. She noted that with the anticipated attendance of the Prime Minister, several Chief Ministers, and foreign dignitaries, these enhanced security measures are absolutely essential for a smooth and secure centenary celebration.
