Puttaparthi is abuzz with activity as officials meticulously plan the upcoming centenary celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. District Collector A. Shyam Prasad recently issued directives, emphasizing the need for comprehensive arrangements to accommodate the large influx of devotees and dignitaries expected from both India and around the world.
During a key review meeting involving district officials and the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, the Collector highlighted that since the centenary has been designated a State festival, it must beautifully showcase the cultural and spiritual essence of Andhra Pradesh. A strong emphasis was placed on ensuring the celebrations are conducted with environmental responsibility.
To ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for all attendees, the Collector mandated the provision of round-the-clock amenities throughout Puttaparthi and at various transit points. These essential services include reliable access to safe drinking water, proper sanitation facilities, mobile toilets, adequate street lighting, numerous food counters, accessible medical camps, and effective waste management systems.
Furthermore, Mr. Shyam Prasad stressed the urgent need to repair crucial roads linking Bengaluru and Puttaparthi. Significant attention is also being given to the airport premises and surrounding areas, including the establishment of sufficient parking facilities to manage the anticipated traffic.
On the security front, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar revealed a comprehensive action plan. This includes round-the-clock digital surveillance, supported by drones, body-worn cameras, and repeater stations. A central command center, staffed with rapid response teams, will oversee security operations throughout the duration of the festival.
In line with the eco-friendly initiative, the official underscored the strict ban on single-use plastics, advocating for alternatives like paper plates, banana leaves, and cloth bags. Additionally, APSRTC officials confirmed that dedicated special buses would be deployed from all major locations within Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts to facilitate convenient travel to Puttaparthi.
