On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Punjab Police announced a major breakthrough in combating illegal weapon smuggling, confirming the arrest of a man from Amritsar.
Authorities recovered a significant cache from the accused, identified as Amarbir Singh, including six pistols, eleven magazines, and a total of 111 live cartridges (91 of .30 bore and 20 of 9mm caliber).
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on X (formerly Twitter Inc.), stating, “In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Rural Police busts an illegal weapon smuggling module and apprehends Amarbir Singh @Amar, resident of Dairiwal, P.S. Tarsikka, resident of Amritsar and recover 6 pistols, 11 magazines, 91 live cartridges of .30 bore and 20 Live cartridges of 9mm.”
Early investigations suggest that Amarbir Singh, who recently returned from Canada, had established connections with smugglers operating from Pakistan. The police are continuing their in-depth investigation to identify additional individuals involved, trace both the origins and intended destinations of the smuggled weapons, and ultimately dismantle this entire cross-border criminal network, as confirmed by DGP Yadav.
