The Punjab Police have struck a significant blow against illegal arms trafficking, successfully dismantling a major cross-border smuggling operation suspected of having direct ties to Pakistan. In a swift, intelligence-led action conducted in Amritsar, seven individuals believed to be key operatives of the module were apprehended.
Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, announced the arrests via social media, identifying the seven accused as Shamsher Singh alias Sima, Amandeep Singh alias Bobby, Balwinder Singh alias Kaka, Gurdev Singh, Karanpreet Singh, Harman Singh, and one juvenile. All arrested individuals are residents of Amritsar.
Authorities confiscated an impressive arsenal from the suspects, including 15 sophisticated pistols. This cache notably featured nine Glock 9MM pistols and six .30 bore pistols, highlighting the high-caliber nature of the illicit firearms being moved.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals maintained communication with a handler based in Pakistan, utilizing social media platforms to coordinate their illicit activities. They were actively involved in both acquiring and distributing illegal weaponry throughout Punjab, posing a significant threat to regional security.
First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered at the Cantonment police station in Amritsar, and a comprehensive investigation is now underway. The police are determined to expose and dismantle the entire network, meticulously tracing both its origins and its distribution channels.
DGP Yadav reiterated the Punjab Police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating cross-border arms smuggling networks and relentlessly combating the proliferation of illegal weapons and organized crime across the state. This operation underscores their ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of Punjab’s residents.
