The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) issued a strong condemnation on Tuesday regarding the arrests of prominent cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan and several other individuals in Uttar Pradesh. The board labeled these actions as both unjust and retaliatory.
S.Q.R. Ilyas, spokesperson for the AIMPLB, vociferously called for the immediate release of all those detained. He emphasized that the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Constitution and should never be criminalized.
Ilyas also raised serious objections to the cases filed in Kanpur, specifically citing those related to banners displaying the phrase “I Love Muhammad.” He clarified that Maulana Khan had consistently advocated for peaceful demonstrations and explicitly distanced himself from any acts of violence. The AIMPLB is now urging the State government to drop all charges and cease what it describes as an excessive and improper use of police power.
