Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the esteemed Member of Parliament for Wayanad, recently visited the constituency on Monday, September 22, to meticulously review the various development projects underway. Her assessment covered areas spanning Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts, highlighting the broad scope of her oversight.
During her comprehensive review, Ms. Vadra specifically examined initiatives funded by the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), as well as crucial programs under the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). This detailed scrutiny ensures that funds and efforts are directed effectively towards public welfare.
Notably, significant progress was reported on projects initiated during Rahul Gandhi’s tenure as Wayanad’s MP. Out of 53 sanctioned projects, 45 have already been successfully completed in the Assembly segments of Wandoor, Nilambur, and Eranad. Furthermore, seven of the 27 new projects championed by Ms. Vadra herself are currently in the implementation phase, marking continued progress for the region.
A key infrastructure project, the construction of a new railway platform at Thuvvur Railway Station, is on track and anticipated to be finished by the close of this year. This development promises improved connectivity and convenience for local commuters.
Addressing a vital healthcare need, Ms. Vadra stated that the proposal for a dedicated blood transportation van for the Nilambur region would be given serious consideration. This specialized vehicle would ensure the safe and temperature-controlled collection and delivery of blood from various areas to the Nilambur blood bank, significantly boosting emergency services.
Highlighting the importance of inclusive development, she emphasized the necessity of enhancing communication and outreach with tribal communities, especially the ancient Cholanaikar tribe residing in the remote depths of the Nilambur forest. Better engagement is crucial for understanding and addressing their unique challenges.
Ms. Vadra expressed concern that the distribution of essential provisions like food grains and even housing projects often proceed without a proper assessment of the tribal community’s actual needs. She stressed that true, effective support can only be achieved by deeply understanding their specific requirements and aspirations, moving beyond a one-size-fits-all approach.
The meeting was presided over by District Collector V.R. Vinod and saw the participation of several key officials and local leaders. Among those present were MLAs Aryadan Shoukath, A.P. Anil Kumar, and P.K. Basheer, along with District Panchayat President M.K. Rafeekha, Vice President Ismail Moothedam, Additional District Magistrate N.M. Meharali, and District Planning Officer A.D. Joseph, underscoring the collaborative effort in regional development.
