The Jan Suraaj Party has formally petitioned the Bihar Governor, seeking the dismissal of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. This move comes after party founder Prashant Kishor leveled serious accusations against Choudhary.
A delegation from the nascent political party, led by its national president Uday Singh and state unit chief Manoj Bharti, visited the Raj Bhavan late on Tuesday evening to submit their request.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Mr. Singh expressed disappointment, stating, “We had duly sought an appointment. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Governor Arif Mohammad Khan himself who met us, but his principal secretary who accepted the memorandum on his behalf.”
He further emphasized, “We are strongly advocating for Choudhary’s removal, as his continued presence in office undermines the spirit of the Constitution. We’ve also addressed our concerns to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, given his stated commitment to integrity in public service.”
“We hold no expectations from the current Nitish Kumar government in the state,” the Jan Suraaj Party leader declared. “Should neither the Prime Minister nor the Governor take appropriate action, we are prepared to pursue legal recourse as a final measure.”
Notably, during a press conference held two days prior, Mr. Kishor had alleged that Mr. Choudhary, a prominent BJP leader, avoided trial in a 1995 murder case by presenting documents to the court claiming he was a minor at the time of the alleged incident.
Mr. Kishor further asserted that Choudhary’s defense in the trial court was contradicted by his own affidavit filed in 2020. In that affidavit, submitted for his election to the state legislative council, Choudhary declared his age as 51 years, implying he would have been in his mid-20s in 1995.
“This discrepancy clearly indicates that Choudhary was in his twenties when the murder occurred,” Mr. Kishor concluded. “He should be immediately arrested, subjected to a fresh trial, and remain in custody until the court acquits him.”
