In a proactive move to tackle public nuisance and promote civic responsibility, Prakasam District SP V. Harshavardhan Raju spearheaded a unique community service initiative this Saturday. This program targets individuals who consume alcohol or drugs in public spaces, causing disturbances. Instead of traditional punitive measures, participants are now directed to clean up city streets, contributing to a cleaner, greener environment.
Authorities are optimistic that this innovative approach will foster significant behavioral changes among those struggling with addiction, alongside improving the cleanliness of previously problematic areas. Police officers are actively counseling individuals, encouraging them to break free from these detrimental habits. Those found under the influence are also tasked with cleaning their immediate surroundings until they regain sobriety, directly linking their actions to civic improvement.
SP Raju further emphasized that numerous public spots notorious for anti-social behavior have been identified across the district. These areas are now under surveillance, including the use of drone cameras, to monitor activities. He reiterated a strict warning: legal consequences await those who continue to disturb the peace or harass women through public alcohol consumption.
