Janshakti Janta Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav is currently facing legal action after being accused of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The charges stem from the process of filing his nomination papers for the Mahua Assembly seat in Bihar’s Vaishali district, an event that occurred on Sunday, October 19, 2025, according to police reports.
District police officials released a statement confirming that the Circle Officer of Mahua filed a formal complaint. This action followed the emergence of a widely circulated video on social media, which captured Mr. Yadav utilizing an SUV equipped with an unofficial police logo and a beacon light during a procession held on October 16, as he submitted his election documents.
Investigations revealed that the police emblem and beacon light affixed to the vehicle were private and unauthorized. Consequently, authorities initiated a case against him for breaching the Election Code of Conduct.
Tej Pratap Yadav, the eldest son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, established his own political party after a significant fallout within his family. He was expelled from the RJD on May 25, 2025, for a period of six years by his father. This expulsion reportedly followed a social media post where he confessed to being “in a relationship” with a woman, a post he later deleted, claiming his page had been ‘hacked’. His father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, publicly disowned Tej Pratap citing his ‘irresponsible behavior’.
Following his expulsion from the RJD, Mr. Yadav publicly claimed that a ‘conspiracy’ was afoot to create discord between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav.
He expressed these sentiments through several posts on his X (formerly Twitter) account, attributing the political crisis to individuals he metaphorically referred to as ‘Jaichand,’ implying betrayal.
