In a significant move on Saturday, Congress Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Balmoor Venkat approached the Hyderabad police’s cybercrime unit to file a complaint against well-known Telugu actor Srikanth Krishnaswamy Iyengar. The complaint alleges that the actor posted highly offensive comments targeting Mahatma Gandhi across various social media platforms.
Mr. Venkat specifically highlighted a video where the actor reportedly challenged Mahatma Gandhi’s revered status as the ‘Father of the Nation’ and, controversially, expressed admiration for Nathuram Godse. The MLC vehemently described these statements as profoundly disrespectful and inflammatory, causing widespread concern among citizens.
The Congress leader has urged the police to officially register a criminal case against the actor under relevant sections of law. Furthermore, he appealed to the entire Telugu film fraternity to publicly condemn such remarks and clearly articulate their position on the matter, emphasizing the importance of upholding national values.
Responding to the complaint, an official from the cybercrime wing stated that the case would be forwarded to the appropriate court to obtain the necessary authorization before any formal investigation can officially commence. This step is crucial for ensuring due process in the unfolding legal proceedings.
