In a swift and decisive action, police in the Rajampeta sub-division of Annamayya district announced the arrest of a prime suspect on Monday. The apprehension led to the recovery of gold jewellery worth a substantial ₹10 lakh, bringing relief to the community.
The incident that sparked the investigation occurred on September 10, when Vemula Viswanatham, also known as Oosodu, aged 34, allegedly launched a brutal attack on 50-year-old Ramadevi from Vattaluru Vaddepalle village in Pullampet mandal. After inflicting grievous injuries, the assailant fled with her valuable gold ornaments. Alert neighbors quickly came to the injured woman’s aid, rushing her to the local hospital in Rajampeta.
Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s family, law enforcement authorities wasted no time in registering a case and establishing dedicated special teams. Their diligent efforts paid off, culminating in the suspect’s capture at Reddipalli Cheruvu Bund earlier this week.
Rajampet Rural Inspector B.V. Ramana revealed that this arrest is a major development, solving not just the recent case but also multiple other crimes attributed to the accused across three different police stations within Annamayya and Chittoor districts. Beyond the retrieved gold jewellery, investigators also confiscated a high-end motorcycle, a blood-stained stone believed to be the weapon, and a mobile phone. The recovered items are linked to various cases filed in Sadum (Chittoor district), Pullampet, and Penagaluru (Annamayya district).
Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kunubilli lauded the exceptional work of the investigation team, acknowledging their dedication with well-deserved cash rewards for their outstanding service.
