The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on Wednesday vehemently called for a thorough investigation into the recent building collapse in North Chennai. This tragic incident, which occurred on September 30, led to the untimely deaths of nine migrant workers.
Anbumani Ramadoss, a prominent leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, demanded substantial financial support for the affected families. He specifically called for ₹25 lakh in compensation for the families of those who died and ₹5 lakh for individuals who sustained injuries.
The collapsed structure was an under-construction building located at the Ennore Thermal Power Station. All nine workers who lost their lives were migrant laborers from Assam. One person, who was injured in the incident, is currently receiving medical care at the Government Royapettah Hospital in the city.
In a heartfelt statement, Anbumani Ramadoss extended his deepest condolences to the grieving families. He stated, “Reports suggest that this incident was a result of negligence. I insist on a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.” Reiterating his call for aid, he emphasized the need for ₹25 lakh compensation for the deceased’s families and ₹5 lakh for the injured.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has already announced a relief package of ₹10 lakh for each family that lost a loved one. Adding to the support, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also declared an ex gratia payment of ₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
