On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi symbolically initiated the next phase of development for IIT-Tirupati by laying the virtual foundation stone for its Phase-B expansion. The on-campus ceremony saw the presence of local dignitaries, including MP M. Gurumoorthy and District Collector S. Venkateswar.
The institute’s leadership confirmed that an impressive budget of ₹2,313 crore has been allocated for Phase-B. This substantial sum is earmarked for significant infrastructural upgrades, with ₹1,243 crore dedicated to new constructions and ₹517 crore for state-of-the-art equipment and furniture. Director and Dean of Planning & Infrastructure, A. Murali Krishna, stated that the final building designs are currently in progress.
MP M. Gurumoorthy praised IIT-Tirupati as one of the city’s most aesthetically pleasing campuses, highlighting its integration of sustainable technologies. He also commended founding-director K.N. Satyanarayana for his remarkable vision in shaping the institution and drew attention to its pioneering research in critical fields such as semiconductors and energy storage.
Echoing these sentiments, District Collector S. Venkateswar affirmed IIT-Tirupati’s rapid advancement. He expressed confidence that the Phase-B construction would lead to considerable expansion and bolster the institute’s academic prowess and research capabilities even further.
