Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan recently called upon students to actively engage with the profound life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, encouraging them to commit to truly understanding and adopting his timeless values.
In a special message addressed to all schoolchildren from Class VIII to Plus Two, delivered ahead of Gandhi Jayanti, the Chief Minister highlighted that Gandhi’s life story serves as an invaluable guide. He emphasized that by following this ‘roadmap,’ students can fulfill not only their personal aspirations but also the hopes their families and society place upon them.
Mr. Vijayan proudly noted the significant advancements in the state’s education sector over the past nine years. He detailed that 55,000 classrooms have been transformed into high-tech learning spaces, and new school buildings have been erected with an impressive investment of ₹5,000 crore. Furthermore, students consistently receive free textbooks and uniforms on schedule, and the curriculum has been updated to meet contemporary needs.
He stressed, however, that the true potential of these substantial investments in infrastructure and resources can only be realized if students actively and effectively utilize them. He urged them to step forward and make the most of every opportunity provided.
Beyond academics, the Chief Minister issued a stern warning against societal dangers like drug and substance abuse. He implored students to be vigilant, protect themselves from these perils, and extend that protection to their peers. He encouraged them to become active participants in the government’s ongoing campaigns to eradicate substance abuse from society.
Finally, he underscored the importance of nurturing a strong reading habit, recognizing its crucial role in personal growth and intellectual development.
