In a powerful display of solidarity, government doctors across Palakkad district observed a ‘black day’ on Wednesday. This widespread protest was sparked by the suspension of two junior doctors at the Government District Hospital, who were linked to a severe medical incident involving a nine-year-old girl. The unfortunate case led to the amputation of the girl’s hand due to what was described as a rare medical condition.
The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) firmly defended their suspended colleagues, stating unequivocally that the doctors bore no responsibility for the rare condition that necessitated the girl’s hand amputation. They emphasized that the medical team acted professionally under challenging circumstances.
Throughout the district, government doctors performed their duties wearing black badges as a symbol of their protest. They issued a stern warning, indicating their readiness to escalate their actions if the government fails to revoke the suspensions of their colleagues.
Adding to their grievances, the KGMOA also strongly condemned a separate incident: the recent assault on a doctor at Government Taluk Hospital in Thamarassery. This highlights a broader concern among medical professionals regarding their safety and the pressures they face.
