Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi may miss the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Executive Board meeting in Dubai due to “domestic political issues.” This absence is significant as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to bring up the contentious matter of the Asia Cup trophy not being presented to the winning Indian team.
The four-day meeting commenced on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Naqvi, who also serves as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), was expected to face strong criticism from the BCCI. The controversy stems from the Indian players’ refusal to accept the trophy from him due to his alleged anti-India remarks.
While a specific reason for his potential absence wasn’t disclosed by PCB sources, Naqvi’s role as the interior minister in Pakistan is notable. He has not attended ICC meetings since Jay Shah was elected as the ACC Chairman last year.
In Naqvi’s stead, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Syed is expected to attend the chief executives’ meeting. Should Naqvi be unable to travel, Syed might also represent Pakistan at the crucial board meeting scheduled for November 7.
The Asia Cup trophy remains locked away at the Asian Cricket Council headquarters in Dubai, despite the final having concluded in late September. Sources indicate that Naqvi might still participate in the board meeting remotely.
The Pakistan minister has been central to the trophy controversy, having sent it to the ACC secretariat in Dubai. He reportedly insists that the Indian team must receive the trophy directly from him and has instructed ACC staff not to move the silverware without his express permission.
The BCCI has formally requested the ACC to send the trophy to Mumbai. However, Naqvi is reportedly firm on his stance, insisting that the trophy will only be handed over to a BCCI representative and an Indian team member by him personally at an event in Dubai on November 10.
