Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir Delivers Stark Ultimatum to Taliban: Choose Peace or Face Chaos

In a forceful address on Saturday, October 18, 2025, Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, delivered a stark message to Afghanistan, urging its leadership to make a definitive choice between “peace and chaos.” He demanded immediate and resolute action from Kabul against terrorists who are reportedly utilizing Afghan territory to orchestrate attacks within Pakistan.

This critical statement by General Munir comes hot on the heels of renewed Pakistani air strikes. Late on Friday, October 17, 2025, Pakistan launched fresh aerial assaults targeting suspected terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan. These strikes occurred just hours after an agreement to extend a two-day ceasefire between Islamabad and Kabul, which had briefly paused recent hostilities, expired.

Addressing a graduation ceremony for army cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Chief of Army Staff reiterated his demand, emphasizing that the Taliban regime must act decisively to curb militant activities originating from its soil and targeting Pakistan. He issued a stern warning that any proxies exploiting Afghan land would be met with an overwhelming response, threatening to “raise them to dust.”

The recent surge in military action by Pakistan was triggered by a devastating gun-and-bomb attack on a military installation in North Waziristan. This assault was claimed by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

These escalating tensions unfold as diplomatic efforts for de-escalation are underway. Representatives from both nations are anticipated to convene in Doha, where the Qatari government is reportedly facilitating mediation efforts.

Islamabad has consistently voiced concerns to the Taliban government regarding the alleged use of Afghan soil by various terrorist organizations for cross-border incursions. Conversely, Kabul has consistently denied these accusations, maintaining that its territory is not being exploited to target any neighboring country.

The already fragile relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan further deteriorated following a series of terrorist attacks attributed to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). A particularly grievous incident recently occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Orakzai district, where an attack, allegedly launched from Afghan soil, resulted in the tragic deaths of 11 military personnel, including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major, underscoring the severe and ongoing security challenges in the region.
