In a sharply critical statement, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashok, accused the Karnataka government of making children “pay the price” for what he termed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s “antics to cling to power.” His remarks came after the state government extended Dasara holidays for both government and aided schools, a move intended to free up teachers to conduct a Social and Educational Survey.
Taking to social media, Mr. Ashok didn’t mince words, declaring, “This isn’t a survey — it’s a circus of errors, and Karnataka’s children are paying the price for it.” He painted a chaotic picture, alleging that the enumerators assigned to the survey were ill-prepared and lacked clear direction on what questions to ask.
Furthermore, Ashok claimed that valuable teaching time was being lost as educators were “pulled from classrooms,” leaving students “in the dark” about their studies. He concluded by branding the entire exercise as a “politically motivated” endeavor, designed to serve a hidden agenda rather than genuine educational or social benefit.
