October marks World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in Kerala, a significant effort is underway to tackle the disease head-on. The Kannur Malabar Cancer Care Society is spearheading a comprehensive, month-long campaign, bringing vital awareness programs and free screening camps to four districts: Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. This ambitious initiative builds upon the success of the Breast Cancer Brigade Project, first launched in 2017 with the critical goal of reducing the rising incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer in the state.
D. Krishnanath Pai, President of the Malabar Cancer Care Society, emphasized that this year’s campaign will reach deep into communities through village-level awareness sessions. Crucially, state-of-the-art screening services, including mammograms, ultrasounds, and FNAC tests, will be made accessible via the Sanjeevani Mobile Tele-On-Net unit, ensuring advanced care reaches those who need it most.
These vital camps are a testament to strong community collaboration, organized in partnership with various local groups such as Lions, Rotary, Wise Men’s Club, palliative care units, and libraries. Adding a touch of celebrity power, popular actress Manju Warrier continues her invaluable role as the project’s brand ambassador, further amplifying its reach and impact as a leading example of community-driven health intervention.
Organizations passionate about joining this impactful cause are encouraged to partner with the Malabar Cancer Care Society. Interested groups can register their participation by September 30 by visiting the society’s office at South Bazaar, Kannur, or by calling 0497-2705309, 2703309, or 9446525309. Together, we can make a significant difference in the fight against breast cancer.
