As the Bihar Assembly elections draw near, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has stepped up his campaign efforts with a video message released on Saturday. The message focuses on the progress achieved by his government, which has been in power since 2005.
In the nearly four-minute video, Nitish Kumar asserted that his government has served the people of Bihar with honesty and transformed the state. He highlighted the shift from a time when being called a ‘Bihari’ was a source of shame to a period where it has become a matter of pride.
The JD(U) leader pointed out the dire state of law and order when he first took charge over two decades ago, crediting his government’s efforts for significant improvements across education, health, infrastructure, drinking water, agriculture, and youth employment.
“You have given me the opportunity to serve the people of Bihar continuously since 2005. We want to tell you that in the situation in which we got Bihar, at that time, it was an insult to be called a Bihari. Since then, we have served you by working day and night with full honesty and hard work. You know that earlier, the law and order situation was very bad. First of all, the work of fixing it was done,” he stated.

Kumar emphasized his government’s inclusive development approach, stating that work has been done for all sections of society – Hindu, Muslim, upper caste, backward, extremely backward, Dalit, and Mahadalit. He contrasted this with his own family, implying that his focus has always been on public service rather than personal gain, a veiled reference to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD.
He also highlighted the empowerment of women, noting their increased independence and ability to support their families. “We did not do anything for our family. Now being called a Bihari is a matter of honour, not insult,” he added.
Kumar reiterated his government’s commitment to integrity and transforming Bihar into a state its residents can be proud of. He acknowledged the crucial support from the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in driving Bihar’s growth, stating, “Only NDA can develop Bihar.”
He appealed to the voters to ensure a significant victory for NDA candidates in the upcoming elections, promising further development that will elevate Bihar among the top states. He urged citizens to participate in large numbers on November 6 and 11 to cast their votes.
Voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly will take place in two phases on November 6 and 11. The results for both the assembly elections and bye-elections across seven states will be declared on November 14.
