The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT-C) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently inaugurated five new BIS Student Chapters and a specialized ‘BIS Corner’ on the campus. This significant initiative is designed to embed fundamental principles of standardization and a strong sense of quality awareness directly into the technical education framework.
The official launch event saw the presence of distinguished guests, including Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director General (Southern Region) of BIS, and Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT-C. They jointly inaugurated the student chapters and honored the faculty mentors who will guide these new organizations, as detailed in a recent press release.
During his address, Prof. Krishna emphasized the immense value of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership with BIS provides our students with invaluable resources and a direct link to national quality standards. It is a crucial step in empowering them to emerge as leaders in a nation increasingly focused on quality.”
Dr. Ganesan further elaborated on the mission, highlighting that “engaging with bright young minds at prestigious institutions like NIT-C is at the core of our objectives. These student chapters will serve as an essential bridge, connecting classroom theory with practical, real-world industrial applications. This will cultivate a generation of professionals who instinctively prioritize quality.”
The newly established BIS Corner, aptly named ‘Standards Arena,’ is set to become a central hub for learning and research in standardization. It will offer students and faculty effortless access to a wealth of BIS standards, publications, and other vital knowledge resources.
