NIA Intensifies Probe: Father-Son Maoist Duo Charged Under UAPA in Chhattisgarh BJP Leader’s Murder Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has significantly escalated its probe into the 2023 murder of BJP leader Ratan Dubey, filing a supplementary chargesheet that brings serious charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against two alleged Maoist operatives: Shivanand Nag and his father, Narayan Prasad Nag.

This latest chargesheet, the second supplementary in the case, was presented to the special NIA court in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday, September 25. The agency confirmed the father-son duo’s arrest, though specific details surrounding their apprehension were not immediately disclosed.

Investigations conducted by the NIA have firmly established Shivanand Nag and Narayan Prasad Nag’s active participation in the criminal conspiracy that led to Dubey’s brutal killing. Both individuals are identified as active members of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) organization.

Furthermore, the NIA’s probe uncovered that the Nags harbored existing political, business, and personal rivalries with Ratan Dubey, who served as the BJP’s Narayanpur district unit vice president in the Bastar region. Dubey was savagely attacked with hand axes and killed in November 2023 during an election campaign event held at a crowded weekly market in Koushalnar village, Jharaghati area of Narayanpur.

The agency concluded that this heinous, targeted assassination was carried out with the deliberate intent to disrupt the electoral process and instill fear among the local populace.

Since taking over the investigation in February 2024, the NIA has systematically built its case, revealing the involvement of members from the Bayanar Area Committee and Barsoor Area Committee of the Maoists’ East Bastar Division, alongside their overground workers (OGWs).

Including this latest filing, the NIA has now submitted one main chargesheet and two supplementary chargesheets in the high-profile case. Previously, the agency had charged Dhan Singh Korram in June last year, with two more accused, Sainuram Korram and Laluram Korram, arrested and chargesheeted in December 2024. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to pursue all leads.
