The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially filed a charge sheet against a key suspect involved in a 2024 attack on security forces by CPI (Maoist) operatives in Jharkhand. Officials confirmed on Saturday, September 27, 2025, that Abhijeet Koda—also known by aliases such as Sunil Koda, Matla Koda, and Matlu, hailing from Jamui district in Bihar—was named in the charge sheet presented to the NIA special court in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Friday, September 26, 2025.
According to an NIA statement, Koda, an armed member of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization, actively participated in the group’s criminal conspiracy. His activities included facilitating terrorist acts and working to expand and strengthen the outfit alongside other senior leaders. Investigations by the NIA revealed that Koda served as a courier and messenger for high-ranking Maoist figures, providing essential support for their operations and various illegal activities.
This particular case began in February last year when Jharkhand Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) initiated a comprehensive search and combing operation in the Sundari Pahari forest area of Chatro-Chatti, Bokaro district. This action followed intelligence reports indicating the presence of 15-20 Naxalite cadres in the area, who were allegedly planning criminal acts, youth recruitment, illicit levy collection, and attacks on security forces. During the operation, the Naxalites opened fire indiscriminately at the forces, who then retaliated. While the Maoist militants managed to flee into the dense forest, security forces successfully seized various items from the site. These included a laptop with its charger, a pen drive, a wireless handset, an FM receiver radio, a list of phone numbers, Naxal literature, pencil batteries, a portable scanner, live and fired cartridges, gunpowder, pellets, and a striker for pellets. The NIA took over the investigation in June 2024 and is actively continuing its efforts to fully resolve the case.
