Nellore’s 14th Division is witnessing a remarkable transformation, all thanks to Corporator Kartham Prathap Reddy’s inspiring ‘One Day One Street Cleanliness’ campaign. This ambitious initiative, drawing inspiration from Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s ‘Swachh Andhra – Swarna Andhra’ program, has revitalized key areas like A.C. Nagar, Padmavathi Nagar, Balaji Nagar, and Srinagar over recent weeks.
In a recent conversation, Corporator Reddy revealed the program’s launch on August 18, 2025, with a clear goal: to foster a clean and green environment within his division. Operating four days a week, the team has already meticulously cleaned 30 out of 80 streets. Beyond the municipal workers, Corporator Reddy personally funds three additional private workers who diligently maintain the streets every morning, from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Under the guidance of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana, Corporator Reddy ensures comprehensive sanitation efforts. These include introducing oil balls into canals to combat pests, bleaching, fogging, applying mosquito repellents, and systematically removing silt and debris from the waterways.
More than just cleaning, Corporator Reddy is a strong advocate for public awareness, emphasizing the crucial link between cleanliness and community health and safety. He steadfastly commits to serving the residents of Division 14, who entrusted him with a significant majority of 1,918 votes in the last election. He proudly recalls a past success where planting Tulsi saplings at illegal dumping spots effectively deterred littering – a brilliant idea that was later praised and replicated across other divisions by former municipal commissioner Surya Teja.
Ultimately, the Corporator stresses that maintaining a pristine environment is a shared responsibility. He urges every citizen to play their part by preventing water stagnation in open areas and ensuring rooftops and public spaces are free from plastic containers, old tires, and discarded coconut shells. Together, residents can ensure lasting cleanliness and a healthier community.
