An eight-member parliamentary delegation from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) conducted a thorough inspection of Velusamypuram on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the site of the tragic Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives on September 27. The team also visited the Karur Government Medical College Hospital, offering support and interacting with the individuals who sustained injuries during the harrowing incident.

Led by veteran actor and MP Hema Malini, the fact-finding committee includes prominent figures such as former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, along with MPs Tejasvi Surya, Brij Lal, Aparajita Sarangi, Rekha Sharma, Shrikant Shinde of the Shiv Sena, and Putta Mahesh Kumar of the Telugu Desam Party.
Addressing reporters at the hospital, Ms. Malini expressed profound sorrow over the incident, calling it “deeply saddening.” She emphasized the critical need to identify those responsible, questioning: “Who is accountable for this tragedy? Who organized it, and how did the administration grant permission for such a large gathering in this specific location?”
She highlighted the unsuitability of the venue, which was unable to accommodate even a small crowd, yet was allegedly approved for tens of thousands. Ms. Malini asserted that such a tragedy is unprecedented in political history and stressed that accountability must be firmly established for both the organizers and the local administration.
Mr. Thakur disclosed that the team has compiled a detailed list of questions for both the event organizers and relevant officials. “Lives have been tragically lost. An impartial and thorough inquiry, overseen by a sitting Supreme Court judge, is absolutely essential to pinpoint the exact failures of both the officials and the organizers,” he stated. He further added that the district administration has been given one week to provide a comprehensive response to their queries.
Furthermore, Mr. Thakur sharply criticized the State government’s handling of the crisis. “What actions were the police department taking? Where was the intelligence wing? The ruling party must provide clear answers,” he demanded.
“Upon arriving at the scene, we were overwhelmed with emotion. Small children were among those killed; they had simply come to witness an actor. The responsibility of preventing this lies with the organizers and the administration,” Ms. Malini reiterated, emphasizing the heartbreaking human cost of the event.
The delegation is slated to present its comprehensive findings to the central leadership of the BJP.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the team members landed at Coimbatore airport. Speaking to the media there, Ms. Malini confirmed their intention to visit the homes of all 41 stampede victims to gain a deeper understanding of the sequence of events leading to the tragedy. Mr. Thakur underscored that the Karur incident serves as a crucial lesson for everyone involved, stressing the importance of implementing measures to prevent any future recurrence.
