Cadets from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), representing Karnataka-Goa, recently made a significant impact in Udupi by conducting a ‘Swachh Bharat’ cleanliness drive. This commendable effort took place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, as part of their ongoing 15-day ocean expedition camp.
The No. 6 Karnataka Naval Unit of NCC in Udupi orchestrated this initiative, operating under the expert guidance of the Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate and the patronage of the Group Head Quarters Mangaluru. This expedition is a pivotal moment for the 72 chosen NCC Naval wing cadets, as it’s a crucial step towards securing the esteemed All-India ‘Ocean Sailing Expedition – MENU (Most Entertaining Naval Unit) Trophy.’
During the drive, the dedicated cadets meticulously cleaned their camp site at Sharada Residential School in Udupi, extending their efforts to the beautiful Malpe Beach. This concerted initiative aimed not only to physically clean the areas but also to inspire a greater sense of community participation and promote hygiene. To further amplify their message, the cadets marched through Udupi and Malpe, actively advocating for cleanliness.
The event powerfully demonstrated how even seemingly small voluntary actions can coalesce into significant social change, reinforcing the powerful mantra: “cleanliness is everyone’s duty.” Through their unified and disciplined approach, the cadets showcased their deep understanding of service, further reinforcing the core mission of the NCC.
Following their impactful cleanliness drive, the cadets transitioned to rigorous training at the NCC Boat Pool in Udyavara, near Udupi. Here, they honed their skills in sailboat maintenance and intricate boat rigging. This crucial phase, officially kicking off the MENU competition on Monday, October 6, 2025, is designed to instill vital qualities such as leadership, discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and commanding abilities among the participants.
