The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a significant nationwide ‘bandh’ (closure) scheduled for October 3. This call to action is a direct protest against the new Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, which the board believes threatens the autonomy of Muslim religious endowments.
As part of their ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution’ initiative, AIMPLB office bearers issued a public appeal on Wednesday. They urged all shops, offices, and business establishments, with the sole exception of essential services like hospitals, to observe the closure from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The board emphasized that this bandh is intended to be a peaceful demonstration against the Waqf Amendment Act, clarifying that the protest is not directed against any particular community. Instead, it represents a collective effort to voice concerns and opposition to the amendments made to the existing Waqf Act.
To ensure widespread awareness and participation, key AIMPLB figures, including president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, have called upon ‘khateebs’ (preachers) in mosques to inform their congregations about the Act this Friday. The AIMPLB firmly maintains that the proposed legislation serves to undermine, rather than protect, the foundational independence and management of Waqf institutions.
This upcoming demonstration on October 3 marks another crucial step in a series of protests organized by the AIMPLB across India, all aimed at expressing strong disapproval of the new Waqf legislation.
