Dundra Kumara Swamy, president of the National BC Dal, has announced plans for a significant movement aimed at securing increased reservations for Backward Classes (BCs).
Speaking at an all-party BC leaders’ gathering in Kachiguda, Kumara Swamy highlighted the long-standing demands of BC communities for greater representation in local governing bodies and a comprehensive caste enumeration in the national census. He praised the Telangana government for its proactive approach in passing relevant bills, contrasting it sharply with the “disappointing silence and inaction” of the BJP-led Central government.
Kumara Swamy suggested a clear path forward: the immediate issuance of a special government order (G.O.). He explained that under Section 285-A of the Panchayat Raj Act, such an amended G.O. would pave the way for new reservation quotas across all local body positions.
He accused the Central government of undermining the constitutional rights of BCs by obstructing bills approved by the Telangana Assembly. “They swiftly implemented a 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) overnight, yet they’ve left our 42% BC bill in limbo for years,” he stated, issuing a stern warning. “The BC community will soon demonstrate its collective power, and the BJP will undoubtedly face the repercussions of its policies.”
Kumara Swamy urged BJP leaders, if they genuinely support Backward Classes, to meet Prime Minister Modi and push for the BC bill’s inclusion in the Ninth Schedule. He concluded with a potent message: “Otherwise, history will not be kind to them.”
